Cancun is a resort city on the northeastern tip of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, on the Caribbean Sea. It is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the Americas and a major hub for lifestyle travel, with a wide range of adults-only resorts, an international airport with direct connections from across North America, and a well-established tourism infrastructure.

The Hotel Zone (Zona Hotelera) is a narrow barrier island stretching 22 kilometres along the Caribbean coast, lined with large all-inclusive resorts, restaurants, and entertainment venues. The city centre (El Centro) offers a more authentic Mexican experience with local markets, restaurants, and nightlife.

Best time to visit: December through April is peak season with the best weather. June through November is hurricane season. The water is warm year-round.

Getting there: Cancun International Airport (CUN) is one of the busiest airports in Mexico, with direct flights from Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver, and most major US cities. The airport is approximately 15 kilometres from the Hotel Zone.

Practicalities: Canadian citizens do not require a visa for tourist travel to Mexico. US dollars are widely accepted. The Mexican peso offers better exchange rates at local establishments.
