Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic occupies the eastern two-thirds of the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean Sea. It is one of the most visited Caribbean destinations and a popular choice for lifestyle travellers, with a wide range of adults-only all-inclusive resorts, beautiful beaches, and affordable pricing relative to other Caribbean destinations.

Punta Cana on the eastern tip of the island is the main tourism hub, with the largest concentration of resorts and the busiest international airport. The region is known for its long stretches of white-sand beach, calm turquoise water, and excellent all-inclusive value.

Best time to visit: December through April is the dry season. The hurricane season runs from June through November.

Getting there: Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) has direct flights from Toronto, Montreal, and other major Canadian cities. Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo (SDQ) serves the capital.

Practicalities: Canadian citizens do not require a visa for tourist travel to the Dominican Republic. The Dominican peso is the official currency, though US dollars are widely accepted at resorts.
