Negril, Jamaica

Negril is a resort town on the western tip of Jamaica, known for its famous Seven Mile Beach — one of the longest and most beautiful stretches of white-sand beach in the Caribbean. Negril has a more relaxed, bohemian atmosphere than Montego Bay and is home to several adults-only resorts that are popular with lifestyle travellers.

The town is divided into two main areas: the beach strip along Seven Mile Beach, lined with resorts and beach bars, and the West End, known for its dramatic limestone cliffs and sunset views.

Negril is approximately 90 kilometres west of Montego Bay and about 2.5 hours by road from Montego Bay's Sangster International Airport. Private transfers and shared shuttles are available.

Best time to visit: December through April is the dry season with the best weather. The hurricane season runs from June through November.

Getting there: Fly into Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay (MBJ), then take a private transfer or shared shuttle to Negril (approximately 2.5 hours). Direct flights from Toronto, Montreal, and other Canadian cities are available to Montego Bay.

Practicalities: Canadian citizens do not require a visa for tourist travel to Jamaica. The Jamaican dollar is the official currency, though US dollars are widely accepted.
