Jamaica

Jamaica is an island nation in the Caribbean Sea, approximately 240 kilometres south of Cuba. It is one of the most popular lifestyle travel destinations in the Caribbean, with a strong tradition of adults-only all-inclusive resorts, beautiful beaches, and a warm, welcoming culture.

The island is known for its stunning natural beauty — lush mountains, cascading waterfalls, and pristine beaches — as well as its vibrant music, food, and cultural heritage. Jamaica has a well-developed tourism infrastructure with several international airports and a wide range of accommodation options.

Montego Bay on the northwest coast is the main tourism hub, with the largest concentration of resorts and the busiest international airport. Negril on the western tip is known for its famous Seven Mile Beach and more relaxed atmosphere. Ocho Rios on the north coast is popular for its waterfalls and lush scenery.

Best time to visit: December through April is the dry season with the best weather. The hurricane season runs from June through November, though Jamaica is less frequently affected than some other Caribbean islands.

Getting there: Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay (MBJ) has direct flights from Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, and most major US cities. Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston (KIN) serves the capital.

Practicalities: Canadian citizens do not require a visa for tourist travel to Jamaica. The Jamaican dollar is the official currency, though US dollars are widely accepted at resorts.
