The Riviera Maya is a stretch of Caribbean coastline in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, running south from Cancun through Playa del Carmen to Tulum. It is one of the most popular lifestyle travel destinations in the world, home to several well-regarded lifestyle-friendly resorts and a large, established international community of open-minded travellers.

The region offers a combination of warm Caribbean weather, pristine white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, and excellent flight connections from most North American cities. Getting there: Cancun International Airport (CUN) is the main gateway. Direct flights are available from Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, and most major US cities. Playa del Carmen is approximately 45 minutes from the airport; Tulum is approximately 90 minutes.

Currency and practicalities: The Mexican peso is the official currency, though US dollars are widely accepted at most resorts. Canadian citizens do not require a visa for tourist travel to Mexico. Travel insurance is strongly recommended.
