The Unwritten Rules of the Lifestyle Community

Why Unwritten Rules Matter
Written rules — the ones posted on club websites and event pages — cover the basics. But the unwritten rules of the lifestyle community are equally important. They are the norms that experienced participants understand intuitively and that newcomers need to learn.
What Happens Here, Stays Here
Discretion is the most fundamental unwritten rule of the lifestyle community. What you witness, hear, or participate in at a lifestyle event is not for sharing outside the community. This applies to specific people, specific encounters, and the mere fact of someone's lifestyle participation.
Approach With Warmth, Not Agenda
The most respected couples in the lifestyle community are those who approach others with genuine warmth and interest — not with a barely concealed agenda to get to the play area as quickly as possible. Socialise first. Let connections develop naturally.
Accept a No Without Drama
A graceful no is one of the most important skills in the lifestyle. When someone declines your approach, accept it warmly and move on. Do not press for reasons, express visible disappointment, or make the other couple feel guilty. The ability to receive a no gracefully is a mark of social maturity.
Do Not Poach
If another couple is clearly engaged with a third couple, do not interrupt or attempt to redirect their attention. Wait for a natural opening or approach them at another time.
Take Care of Newcomers
Experienced lifestyle participants have a responsibility to make newcomers feel welcome and to help them navigate the community with grace. If you see a newcomer looking lost or uncertain, a warm introduction and a few minutes of genuine conversation can make a significant difference to their experience.
