Lifestyle Dress Codes: What to Wear and Why It Matters

Why Dress Codes Exist

Dress codes at lifestyle clubs serve several purposes. They create a consistent atmosphere and signal that the venue takes its environment seriously. They show respect for the other members who have made an effort. And they help distinguish lifestyle venues from less reputable establishments.

Following the dress code is a basic form of respect for the community you are joining.

Common Dress Codes

Smart casual: Neat, well-fitting clothing. Jeans may be acceptable if they are clean and well-fitting. No athletic wear, flip-flops, or overly casual attire.

Cocktail attire: Dresses, skirts, or elegant trousers for women. Dress shirts, blazers, or suits for men. This is the most common dress code at upscale lifestyle venues.

Themed: Many lifestyle events have specific themes — lingerie, masquerade, tropical, all-white, etc. Check the event details carefully and make an effort with the theme.

Play area dress codes: Many clubs have separate dress codes for play areas, often requiring lingerie, swimwear, or specific attire.

Practical Tips

Check the venue's website before attending. When in doubt, dress up rather than down. Bring a change of clothes if the event has a different dress code for play areas. Invest in a few quality pieces that work for multiple events rather than buying cheap costume pieces.

What Not to Wear

Athletic wear, flip-flops, overly casual clothing, or anything that signals you have not made an effort. At themed events, not making an effort with the theme is also considered poor form.
