Access Needs

Access needs are the adjustments and supports people request to participate comfortably and equitably in events and venues. They include mobility accommodations, sensory and scheduling preferences, quiet spaces, scent considerations, arrival and departure flexibility, and communication formats. Naming access needs allows hosts and attendees to plan and reduces last-minute exclusion. Access is distinct from medical privacy; requests can be discussed at whatever level of detail someone prefers. Thoughtful planning normalizes accommodations and creates more inclusive social environments.
