Cougar

Cougar is an informal term sometimes used for an older woman who dates or is attracted to younger adult partners. Some people use it playfully or as a self-chosen label, while others find that it carries stereotypes about age, gender, or sexual interest. It should never be imposed on someone who does not use it for herself.

An age difference alone does not explain the nature of a relationship, the people's intentions, or the balance of power between them. What matters is that everyone involved is an adult, has room to make their own choices, and is treated with respect.

As with any dating label, it does not replace a conversation about boundaries, expectations, or consent.
