Drag Queen / Drag King

Drag queen and drag king are terms for performers who use costume, makeup, movement, character, and often exaggerated gender expression as part of an artistic performance. A drag queen commonly performs femininity, while a drag king commonly performs masculinity, though drag is broad and does not follow one fixed format.

Drag is performance and creative expression. It does not, on its own, tell someone else's gender identity, sexual orientation, or relationship preferences. The language a performer uses for themselves is the language to follow.

In community settings, respect means appreciating the performance without treating a performer's presentation as an invitation to make assumptions about their private life.
