Emotional Availability

Lifestyle Glossary · relationship-structures

Emotional availability describes a person’s capacity and willingness to be present with their own feelings and respond to a partner’s emotional needs. It includes being attentive, receptive, and able to regulate one’s emotions during intimate moments. Availability fluctuates with stress, life events, and personal boundaries; being emotionally available doesn’t mean constant openness, but rather honest communication about limits and support. Recognizing availability helps partners align expectations, build realistic support strategies, and avoid misinterpreting temporary unavailability as rejection.
