Mono Poly

Mono poly, or mono/poly, describes a relationship in which one person identifies as monogamous and another identifies as polyamorous. The term describes a difference in relationship orientation or preference; it does not tell outsiders what agreements the people involved have made.

There is no universal template for a mono-poly relationship. Some people agree to one structure, some renegotiate over time, and others find that their needs are not compatible. Neither person should be expected to abandon their needs simply to make a label work.

The important question is whether every agreement is freely chosen and understood. Ongoing communication and meaningful consent make space for that conversation.
