Tantra / Tantric

Lifestyle Glossary · relationship-structures

Tantra refers broadly to diverse spiritual and philosophical traditions with roots in South Asia. In modern wellness, dating, and intimacy conversations, tantric is also often used more loosely to describe a slower, more intentional approach to connection, breath, attention, or intimacy. These uses are not interchangeable, and no single modern practice represents the full range of tantric traditions.

For adults who explore intimacy through this language, the important considerations are mutual choice, comfort, and clear expectations—not a performance standard or a promise of a particular result. Communication and boundaries remain more useful than assumptions about what the word should mean in a given relationship.

Tantra is not a medical treatment or a substitute for professional healthcare.
