Digital Privacy for Lifestyle Participants

Why Digital Privacy Matters
Your digital lifestyle presence — your profiles, your messages, your photos — can have real-world consequences if it reaches people outside the community. A screenshot, a data breach, or a careless moment can expose your lifestyle participation to your employer, your family, or your wider social circle.
Managing your digital privacy is not paranoia — it is responsible behaviour.
Separate Accounts
Use a separate email address for all lifestyle-related accounts. This email address should not be connected to your real name, your workplace, or your personal social media accounts. Use a pseudonym that is not connected to your real identity.
Profile Photos
Choose profile photos carefully. Avoid images that could identify you in professional or family contexts: no company logos, no distinctive backgrounds, no identifiable tattoos or features if you prefer anonymity. Many participants use photos that show their bodies without their faces, or use face photos only with trusted connections.
Messaging Security
Be mindful of what you share in messages. Screenshots can be taken and shared without your knowledge. Avoid sharing identifying information — your full name, workplace, home address, or social media accounts — until you have established genuine trust with a connection.
Consider using encrypted messaging apps (Signal, WhatsApp with disappearing messages) for sensitive conversations.
Venue Check-Ins
Never check in at lifestyle venues on mainstream social media. Even if your account is private, check-ins can be visible to more people than you intend.
Data Breaches
Lifestyle platforms are occasionally subject to data breaches. Use unique passwords for all lifestyle accounts (a password manager makes this practical). Enable two-factor authentication where available. Be aware that any data you share with a platform could potentially be exposed.
