Soft Limit
Lifestyle Glossary · consent-safety
A soft limit is a boundary that a person is cautious or hesitant about but may be willing to explore under the right circumstances, with the right partner, and with sufficient trust and communication. Unlike a hard limit, which is absolute, a soft limit is something that requires careful negotiation and ongoing consent. Soft limits should never be assumed to be open invitations — they require explicit discussion and agreement before being approached. Respecting soft limits means checking in, going slowly, and being prepared to stop immediately.
